Today, June 19, 2011, we celebrated Father’s Day in America. It is the one day in the year when fathers and father figures are celebrated and honored. There is no question about what a significant role fathers play in the development of children. On this day, when we honor our fathers, grandfathers, uncles, and all the male role models in our life, let us not forget to honor our Heavenly Father – God.
Whether or not your earthly father is in your life, you do not need to despair – our Heavenly Father is always here to provide and protect us. Here are some Bible verses that should bring you comfort…
Psalm 10:14 (NIV)
14 But you, God, see the trouble of the afflicted;
you consider their grief and take it in hand.
The victims commit themselves to you;
you are the helper of the fatherless.
you consider their grief and take it in hand.
The victims commit themselves to you;
you are the helper of the fatherless.
1 Corinthians 8:5-7 New International Version (NIV)
5 For even if there are so-called gods, whether in heaven or on earth (as indeed there are many “gods” and many “lords”), 6 yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we live; and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we live.
Matthew 6:25-27 (NIV)
25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life[a]?
Psalm 27:9-11 (NIV)
9 Do not hide your face from me,
do not turn your servant away in anger;
you have been my helper.
Do not reject me or forsake me,
God my Savior.
10 Though my father and mother forsake me,
the LORD will receive me.
11 Teach me your way, LORD;
lead me in a straight path
because of my oppressors.
do not turn your servant away in anger;
you have been my helper.
Do not reject me or forsake me,
God my Savior.
10 Though my father and mother forsake me,
the LORD will receive me.
11 Teach me your way, LORD;
lead me in a straight path
because of my oppressors.
