A Short Good Friday Prayer of Thanksgiving by Min. Michelle Goodwine

Thank You, Jesus, for paying the ultimate price for me, a wretched sinner. On this day, Good Friday, you experienced tremendous, undeserving pain and suffering.  Lord, thank you for caring enough about me to come down from heaven, be born to a virgin, live on this earth, and  then die a horrible death for me.  I can only imagine how brutal the beatings you endured that day were.  How humiliating it must have been for you to have been mocked and  heckled. It is so extremely difficult to comprehend how excruciatingly painful it must have been for you to  hang on the cross with nails  in your hands and feet. And even though, at any point and time you you could have decided to end your suffering, you didn't.  Thank You.  Words cannot even express the degree of gratitude that I have for you and the sacrifice that you made on the very first Good Friday for me.  If it were not for the price you paid for me with your blameless, sin-free, innocent blood, that has washed my sinful, guilty soul white as snow, I would not be able to have a New Life Today!!!  And for this, I say, "Thank You".

God is Omnipresent at 8 am by Tigner Rand

I firmly believe in the power of prayer. Most recently my dear friend had a testimony on this area under discussion of phone calls and prayer. Setting the scene: Harold and I always begin our conversation with a positive affirmation; me, asking how he is doing followed by his sincere statement “it’s the best day of my life”, which always brings a smile to my face. On this night, nothing was any different except this time his tone was concise and clearly expressed.

The Bible demonstrates many examples of the power of prayer: God answering many of Moses' prayers, parting the Red Sea (Exodus 14:13-22), God agreed to spare Sodom and Gomorrah if Abraham could find ten righteous people (Genesis 18:22-32). Daniel spent his whole life praying and was ultimately thrown in the lion's den because he would not stop praying to God and worship the king. Because he continually prayed God spared him (Daniel 6:4-24). God miraculously answered the prayers of the early Christians by sending an angel to free Peter from prison (Acts 12:5-10). In contrast, Jesus' prayer at Gethsemane clearly showed him praying if it was possible, the hour might pass from him Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou will (Mark 14:32-42). Nevertheless, throughout the Bible, there are countless situations of people praying and God responding. Likewise, we are afforded the opportunity of partitioning God directly in prayer. So, if you don’t get anything else from this testimonial learn how and remember to pray daily. As stated, there is power in prayer…

This brings me back to my friend Harold, who was up praying at 8 o’clock a.m Sunday morning, thanking God for all his blessings, the very same day his son played bumper cars with a concrete median. Harold went on to say he appealed a special prayer to cover his son that morning. One can only imagine the feeling of such a conversation when a police officer tells you of an accident. In this case, thank God, everyone was okay. The officer duly noted, “It was a miracle that everyone walked away with only scratches and shaken nerves considering the entire left side was completely demolished. Our dialog ended with “God is omnipresent. He was covering my son at the time I was praying”, stated Harold.

The lesson learned is to pray without ceasing thanking God and never taking anything for granted. Will God answer all your request? Maybe, maybe not. The point is to always pray and seek to be in God’s will. And by all means it is always a joyous moment for a parent knowing their child has cheated death during a horrific traffic altercation. Now, besides praying and talking about my friend’s testimony, what makes this story so wondrous? Harold’s son accident occurred at 8 o’clock a.m. - the same time Harold was praying!

Holy Riches Prayer

Editor's Note: Lounell Williams shared this prayer with me. This prayer is meant to bring blessings to those of us who have faith that God will grant us His favor.  I promised her that I would share it with the supporters of the New Life Today Blog.  For printing purposes, the prayer has been slightly modified.

Dear Heavenly Father, 

Since I seek first the kingdom of God and Your righteousness, all these things are added to me.  There may be a shortage of food in the cupboard and money in the bank, but my God supplies all my needs according to His riches in glory. El Shaddai is my source. I speak light into the darkness.

Lack of clothing I speak to you. Lack of finances I speak to you.  Lack of food I speak to you. Lack of transportation I speak to you. "If God be for me, you cannot be against me. Be removed from my life and be cast into the sea." Provisions, food, clothing and money, I speak to you. "Come into my life. Come into the life of my family. Righteousness finds its way to me. Healing finds its way to me.  Prosperity finds its way to me. Financial blessings come upon me and overtake me."

Jesus is pre-eminent in my life. Therefore, all grace is abounding toward me. So I can have a sufficient supply in every area of my life to give into every good work of God.  I am a giver.  I am a sower.  Therefore, I am a reaper.  Harvest day has arrived.  Jesus became poor on the cross so I could be rich.  Prosperity is part of the atonement and my spiritual right.

I resist lack and prosperity in Jesus' name. I will not live below my covenant right.  I AM PROSPEROUS.  Today will be a good day.  Every weapon of Satan planned for me will turn on him.  This day, I am more than a conqueror.  Today will be filled with blessings from God.  All spiritual and natural blessings for this day have been arranged for me before the foundation of the earth.  I can't lose.

All of these things I pray for in Jesus' Precious and Holy Name. Amen.

Prayer for America - 9/11 Tribute

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for all of your grace and mercy.  We thank You for keeping America safe.  We thank You for allowing us to see another Patriot Day.   Thank You for allowing us to start sending the troops home from Iraq and Afghanistan to be with their families.  And, Lord, we pray for those soldiers who are still over there fighting so that America can remain free.  

Lord, we pray for peace.  We pray for unity among humanity.  And on this Patriot Day, let us remember the 3,000 men, women and children who lost their lives that fateful day – September 11, 2001.  Let us pray that their families are comforted knowing that they are not alone in their grief.  Let us pray that those who died that fateful day did not die in vain.  

And, God, please continue to bless America.  Lord, give our politicians the wisdom to know that differences of opinion and philosophy are not an excuse for insulting and denigrating anyone.  Let our country understand that despite all of the trials and tribulations we have endured, You are still in our midst.  Lord, let all Americans know that You are still in the healing business.

You are still comforting our restless souls.  

Lord, bless those in this country who are unemployed.  Continue to cover them.  Continue to provide their needs, Lord.  Lord, we pray that You grant those with needs of healing or employment or whatever else Your people may need, with Your favor.  

All of these things we ask in Jesus’ precious and holy name. Amen.

Second Chance to Be Made New

There have been several “second chance” moments in my life. 

Remembering back to those days when we lived for the weekends…. Drinking, playing poker, having bar-b-ques, smoking dope, dancing, baking brownies…. It seemed like fun until we got pulled over by the cops for erratic driving or were in the bathroom lying prone of the floor waiting to throw up yet again. I think the only reason I missed going to jail was because they had no matron on duty that night. I wasn’t driving the car but had passed out in the back seat and Jim was driving only he passed out in the front seat – in the fog on a major California highway. We could have been hit by a semi and killed but fortunately the highway patrol were the ones who saw us and had each of us “walk the line”. I think we both flunked. Jim got a night in the hoosegow and I drove the car home with two policemen following me, in the fog, as I proceeded to run a stop sign but managed to make it home and the officers helped me to my front door.
On that foggy night the party we’d been to didn’t seem so much fun but that didn’t stop me the next time. It was actually a number of years…. The second chance part comes later.

The next second chance I had involved relationships and doing it right. I certainly didn’t do it right BEFORE. My ex husband and I lived together two years before we finally got married. I was gun shy having been married once before. I messed up that first marriage royally. The divorce was my choice and my fault. The only reason I ended up getting married the second time was because I had asked for and been granted a month vacation in August – during “prime vacation time” only because we were getting married. I had wanted to change my mind about tying the knot but our parents would have been devastated and I wouldn’t have been able to go on that vacation, all great reasons to get married, right?

The second chance came for both of those lifestyles when my little atheistic self began to realize that there was something more. That there was someone who was smarter than I, that there was a being who loved like I had never been loved before. His name is Jesus. I hit bottom one day while walking in a park before going in for PM shift at the hospital. I didn’t cry often but when I did there was usually a relief and release. That day it seemed like my tears were made of mud and the more I cried the messier I got.

I went home to get ready for work and in the bathtub began talking to the God I didn’t think existed… I got to the point where I asked forgiveness and confessed what a mess I was making of my life asking Jesus to take over. I didn’t realize it but I had been in that tub for 1 ½ hours and the water had turned stone cold. I wasn’t emotional when praying but afterwards a huge weight seemed to lift off my shoulders, I felt a solid peace that I had never experienced before and something had definitely changed.

It was after this being “made new” many things fell into place and I got a number of second chances. I was able to go to people I had wronged and ask forgiveness. This led to greater freedom and more release.
Numbers of years later, I met a wonderful guy. We had both been married before and this time wanted to do it right. We wanted to wait until we married to give each other that ultimate gift of intimacy. With God’s grace and help we were able.

This is a piece I wrote back at that time:
Lord, there is an incredible gift wrapped and set aside for our upcoming wedding from you to us and then us to each other. I beseech you to let your strength be evident in our weakness! Let not even a corner of the paper be torn or wrinkled. Help us, I pray to cherish, trust, WAIT and not gobble. Oh, Jesus, help our focus to always be looking up to you. Father hear my cry. AMEN

Was it easy? Nope. Was it possible to “not awaken our love before its time”? Definitely. 

I was given a second chance at life and also at being able to wait having our honeymoon AFTER the marriage.

All this worked and we were blessed because of our most incredible Lord Jesus and the price He paid to set us free!

Some people never receive a second chance so if you don't know the Lord Jesus please, please take time to make that eternity changing choice today! We do not know how much time we have, do we? He loves you so very much!!!

Changed for God's Glory by David Nicoli

Wanting to bless people with encouragement I decided to share my testimony once again with all who decide to read it. I believe God didn’t give me a testimony to hold to myself, but to spread the word of God. This is just a quick outline of some of the things God has done in my life. 

I grew up in a Christian family, attending church every service. My parents are God-fearing people who I now respect and look up to. The high school I went to was influenced a lot by the hip hop culture; rap, graffiti, etc. I remember being introduced to graffiti in primary school at the age of 11 years, which continued for the next 10 years approximately and still to this day (but now from a Christian perspective).

The friends' graffiti got me were “inappropriate” for a Christian kid growing up, especially when they were all into gangs. I remember Christianity soon left my mind and made way for satan and depression, I got that low I remember shamefully I even prayed to the devil on a couple occasions. I grew up with depression for many years keeping suicide close in my mind. I learnt to block everything out at church which only fueled the devil that deceived me for many years. 

To give a quick outline, I started to hang around with “stoners” ad became one of them at the age of 16. I later started drinking, looking for different ways to bring me happiness, only to fail. At the age of 19 I was at my peak, spending a lot of money on spray paint to keep my reputation in my neighborhood. I also got heavier into the drinking which continued until I was nearly 21. Blacking out was something ‘normal’ for me.

All the while I had parents praying for me at home, when I was getting home late at night my parents would pray for me nonstop (God bless them!). I have very strong parents, I don’t know anyone who could put up with what they did. God is good and I thank Him for my parents. God bless them! Sorry dad and mum!! 

In 2009, September, at the age of 20, God woke me up through my car, I lost control of it. My car was the only valuable thing I had in my life and that’s what God had to “touch” to get to me. I praise Him for that. I won’t go into details about what happened but anyone is free to ask. God changed my life at the right time, if He waited any longer or didn’t change me at all, id be a drug addict no doubt (if alive), only me, God and a few friends know what sort of stuff I was about to get into. Since then it has been a life lesson for me, God teaching me so much. I have a lot to share, a lot of testimonies of how God has done miracles in my life...

My testimony isn’t as dramatic as other ones I’ve read and heard. But I know for sure that my past is the reason Christ was crucified and I thank God for opening my eyes to see that. That’s why I continue to praise God everyday, even though some people consider me as an extremist in the faith. All I know is that God has changed my life and I’ve seen Him work so much… anyone would be love and live as much - if not more!

Prayer for Employment by Mark E. Crossley

Jesus, I come to you today to pray about a new job (Because I am unemployed, want promotion, transfer because of work conditions). You know my heart, motives and mindset and abilities of what can be achieved.

You are the leader and personal saviour of my life and you know what is best for my life, the people I will meet, my financial outgoings compared to incomings, the mistakes and successes I will achieve through you and as there are many unknown factors that require me to live I surrender my life and employment before you and pray for the right opportunities would come about and at the right time the right appointments would be made for your Glory.

Lord let this be an opportunity to re-affirm my faith in you, to show of your goodness to others of how at the very time we needed an answer to prayer you intervened when and where we needed it to because you above all know what is good for us and want to bless us so we can be a blessing to others. Yes Lord, in my next assignment I would be a representative for the company I work for but above all be a representative of the Lord Jesus Christ who gives us power and dominion over anything evil that would prevent us entering into all the goodness God has for us.

In this situation, I give all my thoughts, feelings and ambitions at the Cross and wait for your direction as you lead me to my next role. You have a plan and a purpose for me and I want to live in your will and live that out, please give me a vision of how you wish me to live my life and to live it to the fullest in Jesus Name. Amen.

Good morning Jesus.

I first repent for any word, thought or deed overnight that has been displeasing to You and 

I ask you to wash my body, soul, and spirit with the blood of Jesus.

I curse every corruptible seed that has been implanted overnight that is not of Christ Jesus and 

command them to wither and die, 

so Your righteous seed can grow and spirit that has attached itself to  me over night and send it back to dry places and loose me in Jesus’ name.

I bind the powers  of darkness, principalities and strongmen over the land, sea and air and sever their cords from the heavenlies.

Holy Spirit come and help me pray,

That I put on the whole armor of God.
1)      The Helmet of Salvation
2)       The Breastplate of Righteousness
3)      Shield of Faith
4)      Sword of the Spirit
5)      Belt of Truth
6)      And the Shoes for the Preparation of the Gospel of Peace.

I plead the blood of Jesus over the members, memories, possessions, spirit, soul and body of my past and present.

Lord, I surrender myself to your perfect will.

Bend me, make me, break me, mend me and use me so I can be closer to you.  

Empty me completely and fill me with the spirit of the Lord, The Spirit of Wisdom and Understanding, The Spirit of Counsel and Might, The Spirit of Knowledge and the Fear of the Lord. 

Lord, keep me on the path You have laid for me today and show me Satan’s tactics in advance and heal every memory that hold me back from me being all that You want me to be. 

Lord, please send the Holy Spirit to muzzle my mouth and mute my voice to stop me before I’m to do or say anything that will out of your timing, displeasing or offensive to You. 

Lord, please don’t let me be just a warrior in your kingdom , but a mighty warrior and front line soldier so when I see You face to face You will say “Well done good and faithful servant. Enter into my rest.” And I pray this all in Jesus’ name.

Amen.

My Daily Prayers: Spritual Words of Wisdom by Joyce E. Adejumo

Since February 7, and for the first Tuesday of the month for the remainder of 2012, New Life Today Blog will publish a prayer for Ms. Adejumo's book.

Father in Heaven, 
thank You for always opening up new routes in my life and directing my path, 
so that I travel on the correct roads. 
You have planned for me. 
Help me to have a perfect heart for You, Father and to walk in ways that are pleasing to You.

Live One Day at a Time by Susan Ferguson

"I am an old man and have known a great many troubles, but most of them never happened." ~Mark Twain

Regardless of age, marital status, or stage in life, we all have our own set of concerns. Parents have a long list of worries ranging from potty training to paying off college debt. Singles worry about traveling life's journey alone. Senior citizens worry about declining health issues. Financial concerns rank high on the worry list, and some families struggle to keep afloat. Teenagers worry about peer acceptance, grades, and choosing a career. The list is endless for every age group.

 Worry is rooted in fear and is usually related to a deep concern of what will or will not happen in the future. Worry can keep us up at night and send anxiety levels soaring. Like a thief in the night, worry robs us of our peace and joy.

So much of what we worry about never happens. Worry does nothing to better the outcome of a situation or change the course of action. The distress that accompanies worry may do more harm than the actual thing which we worry.

Some of us are living way below par of what God desires for us. God understands our struggles with worry, and He does not condemn us. Jesus tells us not to worry about tomorrow and live one day at a time.

 

"Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." (Matthew 6:34 NIV)

We are not promised tomorrow. It is important to make the most of every day God gives us. Worry is a waste of valuable time -- precious moments, sunny days, and productive hours -- that we will never get back.

Excessive worry may be a sign that we are moving away from our dependence on God. Prayer and Bible study help quiet our minds and diminish our fears. A daily walk with Jesus is essential in helping to minimize worry. Trust Jesus, for He is trustworthy.

"When I am afraid, I put my trust in You." (Psalm 56:3 NIV)

God makes provision for our future. He walks alongside us, hand in hand, as we make our journey ahead. We are in capable hands. He promises to be with us always, and to strengthen and sustain us during times of adversity.

"The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged." (Deuteronomy 31:8 NIV)

Prayer
Father, many of us are plagued by worry and fear. Replace worry with joy and peace. Replace fear with faith and love. Help meet the needs of families who have college debt and financial concerns. Stretch forth your healing hand to senior citizens and those with health concerns. Bring Godly relationships into the lives of singles. Provide guidance to teenagers and parents alike. In Jesus name. Amen.

A Prayer in a Time of Difficulty by C.L. Glover

Lord, today we come to You seeking refuge in Your Word because incidences are happening to us that we do not understand. We know in our hearts that You only want what is best for us and You will exalt us in due time.

However, our minds are confused because we are struggling to solve our own problems. So Lord, we ask You to give us the peace that surpasses all understanding as we cast our burdens on You.

In Your Word You said You would never leave us nor forsake us. Your presence means everything to us. So help us to focus on You while we are going through our challenges.

Despite the consequences, we give You the praise, the glory, and the honor You so rightly deserve. We praise You because You know all things and nothing is hidden from Your sight. Since we are praying according to Your will, we know You hear us and You will grant us what we asked for.

So now we have all confidence in You and believe You will do just what You said. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

Joy During Times of Tribulation by Michelle Goodwine

 When we are going through trials and tribulations, often times it is difficult to have joy in our hearts.  Even as believers, when we are going through those "valley moments",  many of us find it difficult to be happy.  But, unlike those in the world, Christians have a reason to rejoice while we are going through tough times.  We have God on our side.  We have the Lord to count on.  And we can depend on the promises of God to never leave us or forsake us to give us strength.  

James 1:2-3 says:

Consider it pure joy, 

my brothers and sisters, 

whenever you face trials of many kinds, 

because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.

I am so grateful to God for showing me that no matter what my current circumstances, I have no reason to be sad.  God is always in control.  God is always on the throne.  So, even when we feel out of control, we can feel assured that God is concerned about our well-being. As the song goes, "Trouble don't last always." No matter what struggles we are experiencing, joy does come in the morning.  

In order to feel joy during hard times, we just need to remember that God will work everything out for His good in the end.  If we pray for His will to be done (and not ours), have faith in God, and patiently wait for His response, God will answer our prayers.  Now He may not give us want we want, but He will give us what we need if we trust Him.

As someone who prayed for a particular outcome, and was blessed with God granting me what I wanted, I have learned to pray for God's will.  When I received what I wanted, I soon learned that what I wanted, was not what God would have wanted for me.  Over the years, because of this prayer, I have experienced a great deal of hurt and pain.  So for those of you who have a desire in their heart, whether it is for a certain job, love interest, or material good, ask and you shall receive, says                    .

So for those Christians who are going through trials, let us remember that a New Life Today is possible.  Having the confidence that God will answer your prayers is the reason why you can praise God in advance, and why we can be filled with joy and peace on the inside, even when the wold around us may seem chaotic and out of control.

1 Peter 5:10 

And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.

Romans 12:12 

Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.

Philippians 4:6-7 

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Joshua 1:9 

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

Psalm 34:17-18 

When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.
